Metropolitan Stamps started selling stamps in the Chicagoland area in 1978.  The company evolved out of a personal interest in stamp collecting from both Ted and myself.  The company primarily started out as an auction company dealing only in British Commonwealth and conducting only two or three auctions a year.  That same year, Ted helped to organize the Tuvalu Philatelic Society and was the society's first president.  I also had the opportunity to serve as president a few years later.

In 1981, Metropolitan Stamps started doing local shows to increase our exposure in the Chicagoland area.  We also began expanding our stock to include Worldwide and United States stamps.

Throughout the years, we have been very active in the philatelic community.  Ted was president of COMPEX in 1984-85 and publicity chairman of AMERIPEX in 1986.  In 1987-88, he was bourse chairman of COMPEX and in 1992 he was in charge of 250 volunteers for the World Columbian Stamp Expo held in Chicago.

In 1989, Metropolitan Stamps joined the ASDA, the American Stamp Dealers Association.  In addition to the ASDA, we are also members of the ATA (American Topical Association), the MSDA (Midwest Stamp Dealers Association) and the APS (American Philatelic Society).  I am also a member of the Collector's Club of New York City.

Today, Metropolitan Stamps specializes in Worldwide and United States (Mint and Used), United Nations, British Commonwealth, as well as, US and Foreign Ducks (including State ducks, collections, and covers).  We also carry mini-collections of stamps, an assortment of First Day Covers, souvenir pages and collector stamp panels.  From time to time, we will be putting items on "Special" so please check the site regularly for these special bargains.

Over the years, as our business has grown so have our ways of reaching our customers.  We have increased the number of local shows we do each year.  Please take some time to view our show schedule for 2007 to see if we will be in your area in the future.  You can also find our merchandise occassionally at auction on eBay.  You can find some terrific deals and some interesting merchandise for a good price.
